Infidelity, self-blame, empty nest, reconciliation, and rebuilding self-trust when the life you believed in suddenly changes.

What happens when someone else’s betrayal makes you question yourself?

For women over 50, infidelity can hit at a time when so much is already changing. Children are leaving home. Your body may be changing. The roles that defined you for years are shifting. And suddenly, one discovery can make you question not only your relationship—but your own judgment.

In this episode of Aging With Purpose and Passion, Beverley Glazer talks with Lora Cheadle, JD, CHt, betrayal recovery expert, attorney, somatic attachment therapist, clinical hypnotherapist, TEDx speaker, and author of It’s Not Burnout, It’s Betrayal.

Just as her youngest was preparing to leave for college, Lora discovered that her husband had been unfaithful for 15 years.

What followed wasn't simply anger or heartbreak.

There was shock. Evidence to piece together. Self-blame. And the devastating question so many women ask after betrayal:

“How could I not have known?”

We talk about why betrayal trauma can make even the most capable woman doubt herself, why high-achieving women are so good at performing “I’ve got this” when they’re falling apart, and what happens when you can no longer trust the story you believed about your life.

Lora also speaks openly about separation and her eventual decision to reconcile—a choice that brought its own questions and judgment.

Without excusing the harm caused by infidelity, she explains how unresolved trauma can contribute to destructive coping, what her husband had to confront in himself, and why reconciliation required them to build something different rather than return to the marriage they had before.

But perhaps the most important question wasn't:

“Can I trust him again?”

It was:

“Can I trust myself again?”

Because after betrayal, everyone may have an opinion about what you should do.

Stay. Leave. Forgive. Don't forgive.

But you're the one who has to live with the decision.

This conversation is really about what happens after trust breaks—when you have to decide what you believe, what you want, and whether you're willing to trust yourself again.

Stay until the end, when Beverley shares key takeaways and practical actions you can begin using immediately.
